Brian was previously President of Aspen Reinsurance from June 2008 and appointed Head of Reinsurance in May 2006. Brian originally joined us in January 2004 as President of Aspen Re America. Before this he was at XL Re America from 1999, where he acted in several capacities including Senior Vice President, Chief Property Officer, responsible for property facultative and treaty, as well as marine, and Chief Marketing Officer. Brian began his career in 1982 at Gen Re and also held senior positions at NAC Re, Cologne Re of America and Guy Carpenter.

James joined the insurance market in 1993 and went on to spend eight years underwriting property insurance business, first in the London company market and then at Lloyd’s. James, who is ACII and AIRM qualified, moved to property treaty reinsurance in 2001, joined Aspen at inception in 2002 and was promoted to Group Head of Property Reinsurance in June 2004. 

Following the expansion of Aspen's business in Bermuda in late 2005, James moved to the island and was appointed Chief Underwriting Officer for Aspen Insurance Limited in addition to his group role.  In 2010, he was appointed President, Aspen Re and has recently assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of Aspen Insurance Limited.

Emil joined us in 2006 as Head of Casualty Treaty at Aspen Re America, before becoming Head of Casualty Reinsurance in 2008. He came to us from Swiss Re America, where he was Senior Treaty Account Executive responsible for various global and national property casualty clients. Emil began his career at Gen Re as a casualty facultative underwriter.

Mike began his 22-year career as a claims manager at DP Mann before moving to Faraday and later joining us. He was also an advisor during the formation of the Lloyd's Workers' Compensation Consortium. Mike has extensive market group experience studying workers’ compensation, professional liability and medical malpractice.

Jacopo has underwritten property and casualty reinsurance for 20 years. He is a founder member of Aspen Re and has overall responsibility for our Zurich operation. Jacopo joined us as Head of European Property Treaty, moving from the Wellington Syndicate at Lloyd's. He was previously with Generali in London and has also been a member of the London Insurance and Reinsurance Market Association joint legal commission.

Peter joined us in September 2009 with nearly three decades of casualty and property underwriting experience to establish a dedicated reinsurance platform in Latin America. In early 2011 he became Head of Specialty written out of London, and also assumed responsibility for our reinsurance business in Asia and the Middle East as Managing Director in August of the same year. Peter previously worked at Swiss Re, overseeing the Latin American region as well as treaty business for the large national accounts sector in the US. Before this, Peter spent time with Munich Re in various marketing and underwriting positions in Munich, Madrid and London. He is a Chartered Insurer and a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.    

Marcus joined us in 2009 and established our International Casualty Facultative business unit. He quickly built the infrastructure, secured long-tail approval and increased our presence, especially in new and emerging markets.

During his 18 years in the market, Marcus has worked as Casualty and Financial Lines Facultative Manager, UK & Ireland, for Gen Re. His experience spans all casualty classes including medical malpratice, professional indemnity, general liability, motor liability, employers liability and products recall. Marcus is an Associate in Reinsurance (ARe) and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter.

Heather has 29 years of reinsurance experience in broking, underwriting and management positions. She joined us in November 2005 to lead our development in the international property facultative market – managing the team for six years, and establishing and supporting many of our international branch offices. In January 2010 she became a managing director of Aspen Re with regional management responsibility for reinsurance business in the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Heather was appointed to her current role in August 2011.

Stefan joined Aspen in June 2002 as a Property Reinsurance Treaty Underwriter in the UK before moving to Aspen Bermuda as Head of Property Reinsurance in May 2009.

Stefan previously worked at Lloyds Syndicate 2020. He is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute (ACII) and is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Donna joined us in 2009, bringing nearly 25 years’ underwriting experience to the company. She previously worked for Gen Re and was Regional Manager for Casualty Facultative at XL Re. She has a MSc in Economics and Registered Professional Liability Underwriter Designation.

Thomas has more than 30 years’ underwriting experience. He started his career as an Inland Marine underwriter for Crum & Forster, and went on to spend 14 years at NAC/XL, where he ran the Property Facultative and Programme units. Thomas joined us in 2009 to form a dedicated unit to write programs.

Mike worked in loss control engineering before beginning his underwriting career, gaining experience in both primary and reinsurance underwriting. He brings more than 24 years of expertise to our team as a result. Before joining us in 2004, Mike worked with Factory Mutual, Allendale Mutual (FM Global), Frankona Re, NAC Re and XL Re.

Jon started his reinsurance career in 1986 as an LMX retro placing broker at CE Heath. He briefly left London to work on the London International Financial Futures Exchange as a trading assistant for James Capel, a UK stockbroker. In 1988 he returned to London to join Wellington Underwriting where he took on many roles working for Wellington Syndicates 1095 / 51 / 2020. During this time, he was Adjuster and Assistant Claims Manager within Casualty Reinsurance and Property Reinsurance Claims Manager. Jon was one of the 39 Wellington employees who set up Wellington Re in June 2002. He started with us as Claims Manager, Property Reinsurance, Aspen Insurance UK, progressed to Head of Claims for Aspen Insurance Limited, and then Group Head of Claims, before assuming his current role. 

Russell began his career in 1986 writing industrial and engineered risks with Industrial Risk Insurers and then Allendale Mutual Insurance. He joined XL Re America eight years later as a property facultative underwriter. He went on to hold a number of positions, including vice president and property manager in XL Re America’s home office. Russell joined us in January 2004.
